DIY Embellished Boots

DIY Embellished Boots

Embellished boots are big this season, but if you don't want to splurge on a pair, image artist Sarah Shah shows us how to make our own custom pair with things we have at home.

All you need are some old (or new) items to embellish your boots! Look around the house or garage for rope, string, old jewelry, belts, etc. Sarah got her inspiration from Freebird Boots by Steven (Steve Madden for Free People), which retail for over $300.

Here's how to make your own:

1. Start with a pair of boots old or new.

2. Wrap the boots with scraps of fabric, sweater sleeves, old belts, rope, or twine. You could even use old necklaces. Be creative!

3. If your boots are distressed, use distressed embellishments. If your boots are new, crisp and polished, then use new, elegant embellishments.

4. The embellishments on each boot don't have to match, but they should coordinate.

5. Just keep wrapping, inserting, looping, and tying until your boots are embellished as you'd like!
