Vacation Rentals in New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans, Louisiana is known for spicy foods, soulful music, and rich culture -- but will the rental properties live up to such high standards? Christina and Brien are eager to find out as they explore three properties with completely different styles. Rene will show the duo a historic home, a cutting edge cottage, and an atypical abode! Will the Big Easy cause big differences in their opinions?

New Orleans was founded by the French and sold to the U.S. as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. There has always been a French flair to the city as well as Caribbean and African influences.

With influences from all cultures, New Orleans has become one of America's most acclaimed melting pots. As the birthplace of jazz, and the home to incredible cuisine, this is the ideal place for foodies from Philadelphia, Christina and Brien. They are leaving the City of Brotherly Love to explore the colorful quarters of New Orleans for a long weekend.

With high expectations and a $350-a-night budget, the couple hopes that selecting a rental in the Big Easy won't be too hard. Rene has selected properties in three distinct neighborhoods.

"What's important to us in a house is something that can capture the flavor of the neighborhood -- whether it's the architecture of that is native to that neighborhood or be its proximity to the social life," said Brien.

For their perfect 'sweet retreat' they are looking for the following:

  • Sleep comfortably and spread out
  • Close to great restaurants and live music
  • Unique and historic with a classic New Orleans vibe

Historic Home for Rent - It's a home in the Garden District, just a few miles away from the French Quarter. Built in 1885, there's no denying that this lot is rich in history and full of stories. The 2,500-square-foot home has three bedrooms and two baths. The owner lived in the home for 28 years and renovated it after Hurricane Katrina. It rents for $300 a night. Cutting Edge Cottage for Rent - The rental property is a modern lot in the Marigny neighborhood that has the cutting-edge look and ideal location that the couple desires. The home, which was built in the early 1900s, is only 10 blocks from the French Quarter. A lot of the local residents consider this part of the city the 'Brooklyn' of New Orleans. The home is 1500 square feet with two bedrooms and one and half baths. Brien and Christina were excited about the Jacuzzi in the backyard. It also rents for $300. Floating Villa for Rent - Rene showed them a house boat for rent in Properties Landing, which is a little far removed from the downtown area of New Orleans. It is about 15 minutes from the French Quarter. The peaceful property is 650 square feet. There is a restaurant on the property and a swimming pool. The house boat has two bedrooms and one bath. There is a deck on the roof of the property that has an amazing view of the harbor. It rents for $305 a night. For more information visit homeaway.com.
