Makeup Tips for Every Face Shape

The key to red carpet-worthy makeup? Playing to your face shape. That's how the celebs do it, says beauty expert Christine Cho. Whether you're an oval like Lucy Liu, a square like Keira Knightley or round like Adele, here's how to get the most out of your makeup!

Oval

The so-called "perfect" face, the oval is marked by its symmetrical shape.

1.Even out skin tone with liquid foundation and set with loose powder for a mostly matte, natural finish.

2.Brush bronzer or a multicoloured sculpting combo powder over areas where the sun naturally hits in a mirrored "3" shape (i.e. top of forehead to cheekbones to jaw). Trail over chin and the top of nose as well, if you like.

3.Add a touch of highlighter to the upper cheekbones to finish the look.

Square

The square's beauty lies in its naturally defined jaw structure.

1.Create a natural glow and semi-matte finish with a light foundation that still has decent coverage; lightly apply loose setting powder to T-zone.

2.Use a matte sculpting powder that is slightly darker than your skin tone on the corners of the outer jaw to soften the jawline.

3.Make sure there are no telltale streaks by blending and using a light hand. Remember, a little goes a long way!

4.Contour beneath cheekbones with sculpting powder one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone.

5.Finish with a touch of blush on the cheeks, lightly sweeping upward from apples to temples.

Round

The round face's bone structure is more hidden, so contouring is key.

1.Start with luminous dewy skin.

2.Clearly define cheeks with a darker sculpting powder; blend edges, but leave the rest of the application defined and angular to contrast with your soft features.

3.Use your ring finger to press some cream pigment into the cheeks for a natural-looking flush.

4.For an extra bit of glam, use a light eyeshadow with some sheen to highlight the upper cheekbones.
