Decorate A Room for You and Your Man
Think one space can't accommodate sports-watching, entertaining and everyday living? Think again. Here we show you how to strike a balancing, blending masculine and feminine touches.
At the end of the day a sofa is a sofa: If your husband is like every guy out there, it doesn't matter what it looks like, he'll hang out and lay down on it. We love this simple and sleek sofa, and the tailored look will work for both of you.
These have a very feminine line to them but the houndstooth is traditionally a men's suiting and hunting fabric. This keeps these chairs from feeling overly formal or feminine.
Here too we have a balance of materials. The reclaimed wood frame of this coffee table is balanced by a reflective mirror top, which gives a feminine sparkle. If a space needs to work for everyone, make sure to keep everyone's aesthetic in mind.
We had a bit of fun on the floor, but the balance still exists here. The pattern is reminiscent of a printed t-shirt, but the quality and colour will create a well-designed space, which is the ultimate goal.
Media Console and Art
TV watching is one of the major requirements of this space, which requires thinking about your media console. We find that many people simply choose pieces to house their television components, but we really like to see television units that fit in seamlessly with the décor. We opted to paint this wall a dark neutral, so the television would fade in to the background when it's off and be the focal point when it's on. But don't forget the art! You don't want to leave your walls bare just because there's a television on it.
Bold and Over-scale Accessories and Lamps
Both the lamps and accessories are where you can make a statement so choose ones that you love and will love for a long time to come. The throw cushions are where you can incorporate colour and some pattern which will again inject personality into your space. Also make sure they are comfortable for all those hours of TV watching.
