Joey Fatone's Taste of Middle East

Food from the Middle East is always a crowd pleaser but making it yourself can be a little intimating. Joey Fatone visits a New York chef who shares the secrets to making two popular Middle Eastern dishes. These recipes are perfect for your next backyard barbeque or party.
Joey meets up with Tamer Hamawi, a rising star on the New York food scene, and his fiance Blaire Carson in Brooklyn, New York. Tamer owns two popular restaurants in Brooklyn -- Colonie NYC and Gran Electrica. He is sticking to his roots and sharing his passion for cooking with some Egyptian food.

"Egyptian food is very much shareable food, it's all about big events and big platters of stuff, big trays of food we can all eat and share together" says Tamer Hamawi.

Tamer starts by making a drink called the 'Tamarita' that is out of this world. This twist on the traditional margarita is commonly served in Egypt. He uses a unique pod grown fruit called tamaryn, which gives the cocktail an amazing flavor. It is sure to be hit at your next party!

Then, Tamer shares his mom's recipe for tabouli. It's an easy and flavorful dish that's perfect for summer. He plates the tabouli on a bed of fresh romaine lettuce leaves.

Growing up watching his mom cook and entertain friends and family, Tamer found a passion for cooking. He was destined to follow in her footsteps.

"My mom is an amazing cook. I always helped her in the kitchen and fell in love with cooking though her, and being responsible for people's happiness," said Tamer.

Next, Tamer shows Joey how to make baba ghanoush, which is an appetizer that is made with roasted eggplant and tahina. He serves it as a dip with some homemade pita chips.
