Yosemite Falls - Over the Edge

Yosemite National Park is home to many scenic wonders but one stands out as spring snow-melt fills the rivers with water. Yosemite Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the world at nearly 2,500 feet and as the water explodes from the brink of Yosemite Valley's north wall, it thunders into the rocks below, echoing through the entire valley.
There are many beautiful places to look at Yosemite Falls from the valley floor but if you're ready for a view you'll never forget, and willing to put in a little sweat to get there, the overlook trail to the top of Yosemite Falls is a must do!

The trail head is just west of the Yosemite Lodge parking lot and twists 3.4 miles to the top. The trail is heavily used and well maintained but can be difficult for even people in decent shape. Take your time and lots of stops on the way up to enjoy the views. An average climb for someone in moderate condition would be around 3 - 4 hours. Bring plenty of water...you will need it!

I recommend bringing a light backpack and plan an overnight stay on top of the falls at one of the great natural campsites near the rim. In the morning, you'll have the place all to yourself before the rush of day-hikers scramble to the overlook. Also, if you continue along the trail further to the east, you can look over the edge of an amazing cliff wall at Yosemite Point.

This hike is tough but the payoff is well worth it!
