Not far from New York's bright lights and big city you can escape into a world of dense forests, sparkling lakes and wild beauty in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Pocono Mountains are made up of a 400 square-mile area. The name Pocono is a translated Native American term meaning "stream between two mountains." This is a reference to the Delaware River and the gap that flows through on the Pocono's eastern border.
The mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania are populated with dense, hardwood forests, amazing waterfalls and creeks, lakes and an impressive network of hiking trails and state parks. All this is only two hours from The Big Apple... who knew?
