Ways To Tie A Scarf

Scarves are not only the perfect accessory -- they can be transformed into shirts, handbags, and more!

The Vintage Contessa, Donae Chramosta, shows Rebecca how a few twists and knots in your scarf can create stand-out style.

HALTER TOP

  • Take two ends and knot them around neck, leaving it loose and blousy
  • Take the other two ends and tie around waist
  • Wear alone, over bathing suit, over tank, or under a jacket or blazer
BOLERO
  • Tie together the two ends on one side and do the same on the other
  • Slip arms into holes, and you have a bolero!
TWO-SCARF TUNIC
  • Fold two scarves into triangles, shiny side out
  • Lie scarves down next to each other so that the long sides are touching and the points of triangle are on outside
  • Go to center of two scarves on long side, grab material from each, and knot them together in the middle
  • Pick up, take two of the points at top or bottom and tie around neck
  • Tie other two ends around waist, and you have a tunic!
  • Un-tie knot in center to turn tunic into vest
TWO-SCARF BLOUSE
  • Take two scarves and put them together, shiny side out
  • Take two corners and tie together
  • Place over head
  • Grab ribbon from scarf box or a belt and cinch at waist
SCARF SATCHEL
  • Shiny side down, tie a knot in each corner leaving a little extra tail at end of each knot
  • Then, tie parallel sides together on each side to create your handbag!
SCARF HOBO
  • Shiny side down, take opposite corners and tie them together
  • Tie other opposite corners together
  • Slip arms in holes, and you have a handbag
SCARF SHOULDER STRAP
  • Start with a classic fold.
  • Lie scarf shiny side down
  • Bring one point to the middle, and then opposite point to the middle
  • Continue folding opposite sides to middle until it's about two inches thick
  • Twist the fold as much as necessary to make it tight and knot ends together
  • Add inside the strap of a clutch to turn clutch into shoulder bag
SCARF HANDLE
  • Take a "twilly" or small, narrow scarf and knot it around one end of your handbag handle.
  • Wrap the scarf around the handle until at the other end
  • Take the end of the scarf and loop it through the last wrap to knot it off
SCARF ACCENT ON HAT
  • Start with a classic fold
  • Lie scarf shiny side down
  • Bring one point to the middle, and then opposite point to the middle
  • Continue folding opposite sides to middle until it's about two inches thick
  • Wrap and tie around hat
