Pair Your Makeup and Outfit
You spent hours figuring out which dress to wear -- don't ruin your ensemble with the wrong makeup! Turns out, there's a face for every frock.
"Usually, when you're putting together an outfit for a special occasion, so much focus is placed on the dress. Rightfully so. But if your dress is right and your face is wrong, your outfit is going to be unsuccessful," says fashion and beauty expert Nicole Young.
Here are her Nicole's perfect combinations:
- Metallic Mini
Since a glittery dress has so much pop, "less is more" makeup is definitely the way to go. Avoid overdone makeup and the extreme smoky look. Your best beauty option for this look is to showcase fresh dewy skin along with neutral eyes with a hint of shimmer, and natural glossy lips.
- Little Black Dress
Add excitement to a black dress with dramatic eyes and soft shiny lips. Your best beauty option would be to create seductive smoky eyes and polish off with nude lacquered lips. You want to avoid minimal make up with a black dress, as it'll look boring rather than glam.
- Floral Dress
Balance out a feminine print with edgy cat eyeliner and a pale rosy pout. To create this look focus on black lined eyes, subtle blush cheeks, and light pink lips. Avoid bright colors on the face that will clash with the busy print.
- Bright Bold Dress
Let your bold hued dress (like red) take center stage with long lashes and a light peachy pout. For this look you'll want barely there shadow and blush, balanced with dark lush lashes (faux lashes!) and a pale peach lip. Avoid adding additional colors on eyes and cheeks.
