Layering for Summer

Summer's heat usually means wearing fewer clothes, but that can leave you in the cold when you step into an air conditioned store or office!

Look #1

  • Start with a fitted sheath dress
  • Add a cardigan
  • Add a belt (for a more slimming look leave about two inches of the dress showing down the middle)
  • Add a long necklace (if your belt is simple, the necklace can fall below the belt)
  • For another look, turn your dress into a top by wearing a skirt over it (make sure the skirt has movement) and then add a belt
  • Look #2

  • Start with basic jeans and a racer back tank
  • Add a colorful, light-weight cardigan
  • Add a colorful belt
  • For another look, layer a basic tank under your racer back tank and add a boyfriend blazer
  • Look #4

  • Start with a fun, floral summer dress
  • Add a colorful blazer (3/4 sleeve length is great for summer)
  • For another look, turn the dress into a skirt by layering a shirt on top
  • Other tips:

  • Don't be afraid to layer winter fabrics as long as they're summer styles.
  • The key to layering for summer is using light-weight, flowy fabrics.
  • Choose bright colors, prints and sleeveless styles.
