Grow Your Hair Long

A long, flowing mane begins with strong, healthy locks. Here are some steps for growing your hair down to there.

Salon owner Rachel Gower says our hair is genetically predetermined and the maximum length it can grow is determined by our individual growth cycle. However, she say, "Almost everyone can find a way to improve the health of their hair and ultimately get it to grow longer and faster." Here are some tricks of the trade:

Step 1: Massage your scalp to increase circulation and stimulate growth. You can use your fingers or an inexpensive massager.

Step 2: Clarify the scalp. Make a mixture of equal parts witch hazel and mouthwash, spray onto the scalp and massage it in.

Step 3: Try any of the following masks to stimulate growth (massage in and wash out): warm olive oil, coconut milk, dried rosemary soaked in hot water (let it cool before applying) or aloe vera gel.

Step 4: It's what's on the inside that counts! Be sure to eat a balanced diet with plenty of protein and vitamin-rich foods or take vitamin supplements (vitamins A, B, E, and fish oils).

Step 5: If all else fails, try clip in extensions! Just be sure to have them professionally cut and styled to blend with your natural hair.
