A giant bluefin tuna caught off the shores of Japan fetched a record amount of money.
The giant bluefin tuna weighed in at a whopping 754 pounds! The super fish was caught off the northern coast of Japan and deemed "an excellent quality." Auctioned off at the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Whole Sale Market, the tuna went for a record $396,000!
Two high-end sushi restaurants in Tokyo and Hong Kong split the cost of the pricey bluefin -- which breaks down to about $527 dollars a pound!
Some say the inflated price tag reflects the increased demand for high quality tuna -- especially in Asia.
