Rubina Weighs In After Six Months on 'Live Big' Weight Loss Program
Rubina weighed 386 pounds when she met Ali six months ago. She accepted Ali's offer to 'Live Big' but had a long road a head of her. Ali taught her the keys to sucessful weight loss -- counting calories and working out.
Rubina joined Ali on a 'Live Big' hike in the Hollywood Hills. After a difficult workout, she set the goal to climb some of the steepest hills in one year.
Two months into Rubina's 'Live Big' journey, Ali's mom, Bette-Sue, and Ali stopped by to check in on her. Ali and Rubina made lunch for their moms. Rubina told them how excited she was her weight loss journey and that she was ready to get out of her comfort zone.
"It's all wonderful as it is a little surreal. It's phenomenal because I can't believe it's happening to me," says Rubina.
Six months later she is ready to get back on the scale to see how much weight she has been able to shed on Ali's 'Live Big' program. She was shocked when the scale read 359. Rubina had lost an amazing 27 pounds so far!
"Wow, getting on the scale and seeing I weigh around 359, I'm blown away because for some reason I thought it was going to be worse," says Rubina.
"I just want Rubina to acknowledge everything she is doing. She's got a long road ahead of ahead of her, but it's everyday. She gets into these mood swings where she goes into a cave. I don't want her to do that. I want her to start acknowledging the things she is doing and be proud of it," says Ali.
"Rubina's progress has been tremendous. What we found when she first walked in it was very difficult for her to even climb the stairs," says her trainer.
"Whether you have 10 or 200 pounds to lose it's a struggle a constant struggle but I feel like for the first time in my life that it's something that I'm going to achieve because when you're a big person like me, or anybody out there you get numb. You don't want to look at yourself. You don't want to feel anything. That's what I was doing. I was numbing myself and I don't want to do that anymore. I want to feel alive," says Rubina.
To celebrate Rubina's success Ali surprised her with a Rolls Royce limo ride to a girl's lunch.
"This is what living big is all about. We are the ladies that lunch today," says Ali.
"I can't believe what I'm seeing. You're crazy. It's awesome," says Rubina. "This is really making me feel incredible you know I've never been treated so well. It's very nice."
Rubina struggles with her self confidence. She hopes losing weight and making changes in her life will help her be happy and confident.
"Because I was never the average size girl I see my friends always dating and I always felt left out. You can be a lot of things in this world but better not be a fat person because you're treated like a second class citizen. I'm tired of that because I know I'm a good person. I know I have so much to give. For the most part to me this is what I've learned in 6 months is confidence, confidence going to the gym walking in and that's the thing I wish more people who were heavier would have the confidence to go into a gym because that's what it's for," says Rubina.
"I had to walk through those double doors at the gym was one of the hardest things I ever did and I felt like, 'Oh, great. I'm the girl who needs to be here.' But I'm the one who feels the most uncomfortable," says Ali.
"I want to build my confidence right but I want to have confidence now not when I'm 100 pounds lighter. I want to be look at me, this is me," says Rubina.
"Well you don't do something do something and then become something as a result that, you have to truly believe and own it and every pore of who you are is and then the pieces start you starting creating it in your life," says Ali.
"I think I get to a place where I just want to hide but I think that really dark place is gone, I feel like where I was because all the worst stuff happened to me is over. I want to put myself out there i'm tired of being hidden," says Rubina.
Ali Vincent once tipped the scales at 234 pounds because of the years she spent making unhealthy food choices. Ali has taught Rubina how to count calories so Ali put Rubina to the test at their girl's lunch at Greenleaf Gourmet.
"Remember when we first met for lunch I invited you put the post out there you came and I ordered lunch for us well now we're at Greenleaf Gourmet, and they have a wonderful menu of fresh ingredients and you, my dear, are ordering for us," says Ali.
Rubina ordered lunch for Ali and herself. She made sure they stay within their calorie budget.
Rubina hopes to lose another 59 pounds in the next six months.
Ali checked in on Rubina again to see if she was ready to hike the Hollywood Hills but she had a few set backs and didn't feel like she was ready. She actually gained some of the weight she lost back.
Ali's Big Three:
1. Don't give up. Like Rubina you may have some down days, but pick yourself up and get going. You can do it!
2. Learn how to count calories! There's no better way to keep track of just how much you're eating. It's easy, fun and you'll lose weight!
3. Celebrate! It's important to reward yourself for a job well done. Set small goals and celebrate when you achieve them! Your hard work deserves rewards.
