Getting Fit One Step At a Time

Ali Vincent, the first female to win "The Biggest Loser," wants to get you fit, one step at a time. See how walking is the easiest way to get to your health and fitness goals.

A great way to get started exercising is to sign up for a local charity walk. Ali and some of her Live Big participants hit the pavement for the 10K at Los Angeles AIDS Walk.

Ali says that getting involved in races with a cause makes you get up and show up even when you don't necessarily feel like it. It's a great way to get off the couch and get moving and it's also a great way to meet new people. You may even meet a new walking partner.

Before you go walking, it's very important to make sure you are prepared. Start by warming up your muscles and joints and then get your heart rate going. Not only is it going to help to be more comfortable, it will also reduce the risk of injury. Click here for Ali's pre-race warm-up rountine. It's also a good idea to stretch after walking. This is a great way to improve our flexibility.

You should drink a glass of water about two hours before your workout, as it will help you stay hydrated during your workout. And, then take one or two water bottles with you when you workout.

Once you start your route, you will want to get a pedometer so you can track your distance. You can get one at any sports store or department store. You can also track your distance using your smart phone with GPS, all you have to do is download a walking distance app. Click here for a few app suggestions.

Every time you go walking, you need to go a little further -- just a few houses or the next street light. The more you challenge yourself the further you'll be able to push it. Before you know it you'll be doing 5K and 10K races.

When Ali was on the Biggest Loser, she couldn't walk a block, she never even tried. Now she's done the Biggest Loser and has completed marathons, triathlons and and an Ironman.

Ali is proof that if you do it one-step-at-a-time, you can do anything you put your mind to, but you have got to continue to challenge yourself.
