How To Install Planked Walls

Paneling has a come a long way and it is an inexpensive way to add character to a room -- especially a boy's pirate-themed room!

1. Decide which paneling you want to use. We recommend staying away from solid wood tones, unless you plan on painting them! For this pirate room, we chose cedar paneling which has beautiful weathered-wood tones.

2. Here's a little secret -- if you hang the paneling horizontally, you'll instantly feel like you're in a cottage, farmhouse, or even a pirate ship! It definitely takes the paneling from dated to current! Measure the wall, including any windows, doors, outlets, light switches, etc. and make a template using paper or cardboard. Use the tempalte to trace the measurements onto your sheets of paneling and cut out using a jigsaw.

3. Hold paneling up to the wall (don't forget to hang it horizontally!) and use a level to make sure it's straight. Using a nail gun, shoot small finish nails into the corners and along the sides of the paneling.

4. Finish it off with crown moulding or quarter round along the ceiling line and caulk any noticeable seams.

This is a super simple project that makes a huge difference in the feel of a space! Hopefully we've convinced you that there is no need to fear paneling anymore!
