DIY Faux Wood Planked Ceiling

While a planked wood ceiling can cost thousands, you can bring interest and a pop of color to a tray ceiling using something completely unexpected - bulletin board paper! This easy DIY project cost us only $45.

Installing planks of wood to a ceiling adds lots of character, but it can also cost a lot of money! We figured out an easy way to make people think your ceiling is planked, without having to shell out the big bucks!

You'll need:
  • faux planked-wood bulletin board paper
  • spray adhesive
  • staple gun
  • ribbon or jute twine
1. Measure the ceiling to see how many rolls of faux planked wood bulletin board paper you'll need. We found this awesome paper at our local craft supply store in the teaching supplies section. You'll also need low-tac spray adhesive and some decorative trim like ribbon or jute twine.

2. Fold the paper over to create a straight edge and align it with the edge of the ceiling and staple into place. Working in small sections, staple down the center, then smooth the paper out from the center to remove bubbles and staple along the edges. Make sure to line up the paper so that you don't have noticeable seams. Continue until the entire surface is covered.

3. To finish off the edges, tack ribbon or jute twine in with a staple gun the entire way around.
