DIY Faux Fireplace

If you want to add instant character, charm and warmth to your space, this easy fake fireplace project is for you. It's a great way to fill a blank wall and take the focus off of a big TV!

Materials needed:
  • old fireplace mantel (a new one would work too!)
  • paint
  • liquid nails
  • nail gun
  • painters tape
  • paint brush and rollers
  • candles
1. Purchase an old mantel from a reclaimed goods shop, thrift store or antique shop. Give it a good sanding and then paint it to match the colors of your room.

2. Hold the mantel up on the wall where it will be place and trace the inside of the fireplace opening. Tape 2 inches outside of that line with painters tape and paint the area with your accent color.

3. Measure the width of the "arms" of the fireplace, and mark on the base molding where the fireplace will be. Remove the base molding using a Dremel too. This will allow the fireplace to sit flush against the wall.

4. Attach the fireplace to the wall with a nail gun, or a heavy-duty adhesive.

That's all there is to it! With very little effort, you've given yourself the perfect focal point for your room!
