DIY Concrete Cinderblock Bar

Concrete bars are so trendy, but so expensive. Here's how to DIY it with cinderblocks that cost about a dollar each and create the perfect space for entertaining your guests.

You'll need:
  • Cinderblocks
  • liquid nails adhesive
  • pine 2x12's
  • stain,
  • polyurethane
  • succulents
1. Decide on the size of your bar and calculate the number of cinderblocks. You can find them at your local home improvement store. The only hard part of this project is lifting the blocks, so find a strong friend to help you out with this one!

2. Begin by laying the first row of cinder blocks, varying the direction as you move across. Then begin the next row, being sure to alternate the blocks in a random pattern. Take a break to have a drink and wipe the sweat from your forehead and keep moving! We decided to offset a few so that we could add some color and texture to the front with succulents.

3. Cut the planks of pine to size, leaving a 2-3 inch lip all the way around. Brush on your desired stain making sure to move with the grain. Once the stain has completely dried, brush on several coats of high-gloss polyurethane, letting it dry in between coats.

4. Attach the bar top to the cinderblocks using liquid nails. Make sure to level the bar top before securing it into place!

With a little heavy lifting and a lot of creativity, you can have a really unique bar with a lot of texture and interest!
