DIY Color Blocked Curtains

Great curtains can really make a room, but they often cost a lot of money. Here's how to use the colorblocking trend to create your own custom curtains.

Monica and Jess love customizing inexpensive drapes from a big box store. It's one way to get a high-end look without the high end price tag! We bought curtains in two different colors to do this project, but you could also purchase your favorite fabric for the accent panel instead.

Custom Color Blocked Drapes

You'll need:
  • curtain panels
  • additional set of curtain panels or fabric for accent panel
  • scissors
  • sewing machine and matching thread or fusible web
1. Start by measuring where you want your stripe to be inserted on your main panel and cut it in a straight line. Make sure to leave 1/2-inch seam allowance in your measurements. Don't throw the cut part out, though - you'll use it later!

2. Cut the second panel (in the other color) to the desired width, also leaving 1/2-inch seam allowance on both sides. Sew the smaller panel onto the bigger panel, or use fusible web to attach them together.

3. Cut the small panel from the first curtain to the desired width and sew it onto the bottom edge of the opposite color panel. Continue with all of the other curtain panels.

4. Hang the panels and enjoy your custom-made color-blocked curtains!
