DIY Coasters and Stepping Stone for Father's Day Gifts

Why not give dad a unique gift he can really use this Father's Day? Here's how to make unique coasters and personalized stepping stones for the backyard.

Blogger Adeina Anderson showed us how to make these unique DIY Father's Day gifts.

DIY Father's Day Coasters

Washer Coaster

Materials:
  • Washers in four or five sizes
  • Deco Art Decoupage
  • Wax coated Paper Plate
  • Parchment Paper
Lay the pattern of your washers out on the table. Next, pour a thin layer of decoupage onto the paper plate. Now, place the washers in the same pattern onto the wet decoupage. Let it dry overnight. Once it looks almost dry, pull the washer pattern off of the paper plate and place it on a sheet of parchment paper to finish drying. To make it sturdier, you can glue it to cork board or a sheet of fun foam.

River Rock Coaster

  • 1 bag of river rocks
  • 1 sheet of cork board
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors
Measure and trace a coaster-sized circle out of the cork board sheet. Place a quarter-size circle of hot glue onto the top of the cork board circle. Start adding the river rocks, and press them down as you add them. Quick Tip: place a band aid on your finger that you will use to press down the rocks so that you don't burn your finger. Cover the cork board circle completely with hot glue and river rocks. Let it dry for about an hour.

Twine Coaster

  • Roll of twine
  • 1 sheet of cork board
  • Hot Glue Gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Needle nose pliers
Measure and trace a coaster-sized circle out of the cork board sheet. Place a dot of hot glue onto the top of the cork board circle and place the end of the twine onto the hot glue. Press it down using the tip of the needle nose pliers, and hold it there for about 10 seconds. Now, using the hot glue a little at a time, draw a circle around the glued piece of twine then place the twine on that hot glue. Be sure to press it down with the pliers so you don't burn your fingers. Using a little hot glue at a time, repeat this step until the whole cork board circle is covered.

DIY Personalized Stepping Stone

Materials:
  • Quikrete
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Measuring cups
  • Plastic forms from a craft store
  • Optional items: paint, plastic leaves, paper doilies, sponge brushes, stencils, marbles
  • Mix your cement using 3-4 cups of quikrete and 1-2 cups of water. Mix it until it becomes the texture of pancake batter. Pour it into the plastic form and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes before decorating.

To Decorate with Hand or Foot Prints:
Add hand or foot prints and decorate with marbles.

    To Decorate with Artificial Leaves:
Add the leaf (or any item) to the bottom of the form before you pour the cement. Let it dry for a few hours or until it hard. Decorate with paint.

To Make Glow in the Dark Stepping Stones:
Place the doily or stencil onto the smooth side of the stone and dot the deco art glow in the dark paint onto the stone. You could use a color of patio paint first and then cover over it with the glow in the dark paint. Place the stone in the ground and enjoy.
