Baby Registry Necessities

New moms know how overwhelming and confusing it can be to register for baby items. An expert mom shares the items that are a necessity when you are having a baby.

Items to buy before baby arrives:
  • Car seat
  • Diapers
  • Bottles
  • Basinet
  • Pack n play
  • Onesie clothing with feet
  • Swaddle blankets
  • Portable bathtub
Items you could do without or wait to buy:
  • The Wedge (Use blankets instead)
  • Diaper Pail (You have to buy the special trash bags for it)
  • Wipe warmer
  • Activity play center (Wait to buy this until you know what your baby would like)
You can save a lot of money by buying used at consignment stores. On average, you can save anywhere from 40 to 60 percent on gently used items.

But Just Between Friends franchise owner Melanie Newell says be cautious, not all consignment or thrift stores are equal.

"You might think you're getting a great deal at a garage sale, chances are you may come home and find that item has been recalled so it's very important that you are checking the recalls yourself to make sure those are not recalled products or safety hazards to your children," said Melanie, "We actually have a recall specialist on staff that informs all the owners of new recalls that might have taken place recently she also sends out a monthly newsletter. We are very meticulous with our car seat inspections, we have a waver that the consigner has to fill out. We also have date checks that we perform on those. Any kind of car seat does have to go through a rigorous inspection."

Whatever you decide, it's obvious every mom and every baby are different and a lot of things are trial and error.
