6 Great Uses for Vinegar Around the House

Vinegar is a multi-purpose staple that can be used for more than just cooking. Here are six ways you can use vinegar around your home to clean, freshen, and even help you stay healthy!

Use Vinegar To Clean Your Coffee Maker

Kat loves coffee and uses her machine every day. About once a month, she likse to run vingar through my coffee maker to remove any hard water build up.

She takes one vinegar and one part water. Her machine has a "clean" button, but you can always just use "brew" instead. Depending on how much build-up you may have it may take a couple of times before it's completely clean. Don't worry - your coffee won't be vinegar flavored!

Use Vinegar To Clean Your Diswhwasher

You can do the same thing with your dishwasher to help remove soap build-up. Just pour one cup of un-diluted vinegar in the bottom and run the machine through a full cycle. Make sure it's empty! This will keep it clean and extend the life of the dishwasher so you won't have to buy a new one for years' to come.

Use Vinegar in A Vaporizer To Ease Congestion

Kat has a lot of sinus and allergy issues, so she relies a lot on this! Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the water of your hot steam vaporizer to ease congestion. This will clear you up and clean up the hard water deposits at the same time.

Use Vinegar To Clean Scissors Without Rust

If you put scissors in the dishwasher to clean them, the water can cause them to rust. Instead, use vinegar - just dip a clean cloth in and wipe them clean.

Use Vinegar To Defrost Your Windshield

To keep frost off your car windshield, use vinegar. Spray your windows with a solution 3 parts vinegar and 1 part water - it should last several weeks.

Use Vinegar To Remove Stubborn Stains

Vinegar is also good for removing stubborn stains - mix a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Use a sponge and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for a couple minutes and blot dry.

There are literally a hundred other uses for vinegar, and the best part: it's so inexpensive!
